Education system reform requires clearer leadership

Description

Ministers have ordered a review into the senior phase of school education in Scotland, covering S4, S5 and S6. This phase of education was overhauled by the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) almost a decade ago, which introduced a new set of qualifications. Last week’s announcement comes after research and results data demonstrated that the system needs reform. Previous concerns have gone unheeded with reforms proposed and then shelved.

Among the reflections of the education committee convener, the MSP Clare Adamson, was that those on the committee found a lack of clear leadership from Education Scotland, a government agency, and the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
