Research Interests:

Physical symptoms: particularly where the symptoms are disproportionate to the demonstrable disease. This includes so-called "Medically Unexplained Symptoms". My interests include both capturing symptoms using diary methods and interpreting them as the result of biological mechanisms.

Clinician-patient communication: particularly around the nature and value of safe effective reassurance

Database studies, particularly of prescribing for mental health

E-health interventions: including interpretation of data from telemonitoring and the Help4Mood programme to support depression care

Complexity and healthcare: the implications for health services of the science of complex systems
