    At the request of the chair, Brigita Zarkovic-Adlesic, I am leading a Research and Development Centre (RDC) funding application to the EEC/Lifelong Learning Programme/Comenius Sub Programme. The proposed project is linked to the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE), RDC on In-Service Learning and the Development of Practice. The bid is for between 15000+ Euros. Participants come from the following European institutions: Staatliches Seminar für Didaktik und Lehrerbildung (Gymnasien) Tübingen, Germany; Platform Opleiding, Onderwijs en Organisatie (PLATO), Universiteit Leiden, Netherlands; Högskolan i Gävle, Sweden; Tallinna Ülikool, Estonia; University of Aberdeen, School of Education, Aberdeen, Scotland); National Agency for Education and Teacher Training, Zagreb, Croatia; University of Aarhus, Department of Teacher Education,  Denmark; Gyorgy Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem, Hungary and Zavod Republike Slovenje za šolstvo, Lubljana, Slovenia. If the bid is successful this project will research how teachers learn and the organization and implementation of teacher professional learning in 10 central and eastern European countries.

    British Council China-UK Collaborative Partnership in Employability and Entrepreneurship Project

    As Principal Investigator and Project Manager, I am leading a collaborative development project which as a partnership between the University of Aberdeen and South China Normal University, Guangzhou, PR China. The key outcomes of this project are a) the development of a Masters of Education Degree in Learning and Teaching for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship which will see cohorts of Post Graduate students studying on a full time basis in Aberdeen and b) an undergraduate student exchange programme. This two-year project, part of the ‘Prime Minister’s Initiative’ was awarded a funding grant by the British Council in January 2009 (20K in both years). Out of 35 applications from UK universities, only 6 were successful.

    Teaching Responsibilities:

    As a Senior Lecturer I co-supervise Doctoral Level students (PhD and EdD), lecture and teach on a range of Master level courses (including Advanced Professional Studies, Advanced Educational Studies and the Chartered Teacher Programme). I also teach undergraduate students (Bachelor of Education and Professional Graduate Certificate in Education).

    Action Research and Systematic Inquiry in Professional Contexts

    I am leading the development and implementation of a ‘Teacher Action Research Scholarship Scheme’ in partnership with Aberdeen City Council (ACC) and the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS). This involves a group of primary and secondary teachers who are employed by ACC engaging in systematic enquiry on aspects of practice which relate to the Council’s strategic development themes. Whilst doing so the teachers will be undertaking a 30 Master credit point course. They can subsequently apply for Professional Recognition in this area with the GTC for Scotland. The EIS are providing financial support and national publicity.

    Entrepreneurial Approaches to Learning and Teaching, including ‘the Entrepreneurial Teacher’

    I co-chair the group that is delivering ‘The Scottish Entrepreneurship Project’, sponsored by the Scottish Government and the Hunter Foundation. This is a joint project involving the School of Education and the Business School. It is focussed upon not only  entrepreneurship but also entrepreneurial approaches to learning and teaching, including an innovative approach to employability education.

    Scottish Teachers for a New Era (STNE)

    As a member of the STNE project, the goal of which was to transform Teacher Education in Scotland, I was involved in partnerships with Teachers for a New Era (TNE) sites in the USA. These included the Academy for Educational Development (AED) in Washington DC, Montclair State University, New Jersey and Wisconsin La Crosse University, Wisconsin.  (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/stne/index.php?id=1)

    Curriculum for Excellence

    At the invitation of the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Life Long Learning, I am a member of the Scottish Government’s Curriculum For Excellence Management Board. The remit of the board is to advise the Cabinet Secretary of action necessary to ensure the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence throughout Scotland, at all levels. This is the highest level Curriculum for Excellence body, overseeing the entire implementation.
