Since 2014, Raif has been back to University of Aberdeen as the new Head of the Iain Fraser Cytometry Centre at IMS, servicing and consulting in biology, biochemistry, and medical research division labs on Cytometry. Raif has also been a researcher and his research is mainly focused on different application possibilities of Cytometry, such as the investigation of cellular signalling in human blood, stem cell analysis, cancer research, biomarker discovery, immunology, clinical research, microbiology cytometry, marine and ocean biology. Raif is also actively involved in teaching Cytometry and Immunology. He provides support to the research community in general on the application of Cytometry and cell sorting in biology and medicine, consultation for grant proposals and negotiations with commercial organizations. Further activities have included the establishment of a new scientific society “Scottish Society of Cytomics (SSC)” that brings scientists together from Scotland. He was nominated as the first Chair of SSC at the first kick-off meeting in 2014 with over 150 attendees in Aberdeen. Currently he is the deputy chair of SSC

Raif gained his passion to Cytometry during his PhD period at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. Afterwards he gained further cytometry expertise in an industrial research environment whilst he was a Research Scientist – PI for Cytometry at Phillip Morris International. Before coming back to Aberdeen, he has worked for Miltenyi Biotec GmbH (Germany) as the Global Product Manager for In Vivo Imaging and Cytometry.
