Research Overview:

Terry Porteous joined the Unit in 2015 as a Research Fellow to work on a study exploring the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in the emotional wellbeing and glycaemic control amongst adults with Type 1 diabetes. She joined the University of Aberdeen in 1996, starting out in Academic Primary Care, where she worked as a health service researcher for almost 19 years. Terry has worked on a diverse range of studies, most recently a pilot trial of a community pharmacy-led intervention that aimed to improve self-management of allergic rhinitis, and a study exploring how patients value personalization of support for self-management of chronic pain. Her research has employed both qualitative and quantitative methods, including several discrete choice experiments conducted in collaboration with the University’s Health Economics Research Unit.  Terry’s PhD (2007) used a discrete choice experiment to explore the public’s preferences for self-care or health professional advice in the management of minor illness.

Fingerprint Fingerprint is based on mining the text of the person's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms, which defines the key subjects of each individual researcher.
