Abstract

Archival research in the Archivio di Stato, Rome, on the mysterious Maltese painter, Andrea Ristro, who was seemingly an assistant to the leading follower of Caravaggio, Bartolomeo Manfredi. Establishes the correct spelling of his name, his age, and various contacts in Rome. Also makes suggestions about pictures that could conceivably be linked with him.
