The title compound, (C5H12N)(2)[ZnCl4], contains a network of piperidinium cations and tetrahedral (ZnCl4)(2-) [d(av)(Zn-Cl) = 2.2725 (6) Angstrom] anions. The crystal packing is influenced by canon-to-anion N-H...Cl hydrogen bonds (three simple and one bifurcated), resulting in a structure with layered character.
