This edited volume explores the changing role of the medical museum in order to address the question ‘have medical museums played out their role?’ This query is explored by each contributing author within individual chapters that are dedicated to a single medical museum. Although not all encompassing, many unique collections were selected to showcase the variety of forms medical museums take. Each chapter maintains the fundamental aim by exploring the diverse origins, present function and future direction of medical museums around the world.
