Abstract

As an emergent outcome of my doctoral project at Gray's School of Art (2002-2007), I produced four practice-as-research digital videos: 'Chile Denunciation and Annunciation' (2003, 4mins), 'River Scene' (2003, 8mins), 'From Outside' (2005, 28mins) and 'Returning' (2007, 4mins). This tetralogy of shorts, shot and edited on professional equipment provided by the Gray’s media lab, was put on display at postgraduate public exhibitions at Gray’s, and a CD containing .mpg and .wmv recordings was submitted as part of my final thesis. The longest video, 'From Outside', a record of research fieldwork undertaken in London and Chile, was also screened and discussed at a Hispanic Studies research seminar at the University of Aberdeen on 29 April 2005.
