    Abstract

Porin OmpC from Escherichia coli was reconstituted in liposomes and its gating kinetics were recorded at high hydrostatic pressure, up to 90 MPa, using a development of the patch clamp technique. The composition of the recording solution influenced the results but generally high hydrostatic pressure favoured channel opening. (C) 1999 Federation of European Microbiological Societies.
