Emergency in the Emergency Department: Recruitment & retention of EM trainees in Scotland. A mixed-methods countrywide study.

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstract

Abstract

In 2012, the ratio of applicants per vacantpost was 0.5 for higher specialty training in Emergency Medicine (EM) and there was a high attrition rate from EM to other specialties. These issues have a significant impact on rotas, increase reliance on locum staff, and imply an undersupply of future consultants. What is pushing trainees away from EM? How can this crisis be addressed effectively?
