Abstract
The basis of the Nutritional Programming concept is that nutritional changes during critical periods in early development can permanently induce changes in animal metabolism and physiology, as a result of adaptive changes at the cellular, molecular, biochemical, immunological genetic, epigenetic and microbiota levels. In fish, only a few studies have explored the potential of nutritional programming and its mechanism to improve the acceptance of plant-based diets (sustainable) versus already used marine-derived products and the ability of fish to utilise them in commercial fish farms
