Abstract

'The impact o i the oil taxation packages introduced by the U.K. And Norwegian Governments in 1975 on the exploitation of marginal fields is examined in this paper. The effect on the viability of operations depends on several factors such as the timing of the development of a field, future oil price and exploitation costs, and in the case of the U.K. Whether the new field forms part of a multi-field development. Various fiscal incentives for encouraging-development are examined. All of them are considered in the context of the existing fiscal framework and involve no radical alterations to the tax structures.
