    Abstract

What enables people to think ahead, recognize the need for action and coordinate with others in advance in order to avoid mistakes? How do you proceed? What role does the operational context play? What can companies do to encourage this "thinking and sharing"?
Answers are provided by a concept on quality action that combines work psychological action theory with newer, process-oriented approaches from quality management. Activities in product development are in the foreground, because this is where the potential for error avoidance and proactive quality management is greatest. Practitioners describe their approach to the search for a solution as well as forms of reflection and the exchange of experiences in the company. A self-assessment heuristic serves as a guide on how the prerequisites for quality action can be assessed and improved.
