Abstract

HighScope began as a research project in 1962 in response to concerns over the low achievement rates of Afro-American students in the then racially segregated education system in Michigan, USA. The study identified short and long-term socio-economic benefits from a high quality preschool education. Note how research plays a key role in both the development of practice and in accessing the impact of such practice.
