Abstract

An improved structure determination of the title compound 1 has been accomplished. It consists of infinite double stranded chains which resemble a molecular ladder. Two different octahedral cobalt ions are present which connect the strands together. There are 8.4 water molecules per formulae unit, 2.4 of which are noncoordinating. The structure has a triclinic space group P (1) over bar with a = 10.8655(7) Angstrom,: b = 11.4362 (9) Angstrom, and c = 13.6684(9) Angstrom; alpha = 111.181(7)degrees, beta = 93.417(9)degrees and gamma = 99.542(9)degrees; V = 1548.5(2) Angstrom (3) and Z = 2.
