Impulse of Air: Sensing-based AR Sound Installation

Research output: Non-textual formExhibition

Abstract

Impulse of Air (2019) is an AR + machine learning-based immersive sound installation in collaboration with TOPOS (Daegyeom Heo) who specialises in immersive VR technologies. Funded by Gyeonggi Content Agency (Global Moving Image Awards Support Project) in South Korea, the project uses FMOD, Unreal, and Google Resonance Audio to provide 6DoF (Degree-of-Freedom) immersive sounds for a number of audiences in real-time all at once.

A great deal of research went into the creation of a machine learning-based, multi-user detection system, which identifies individual users and their location and head movements without additional identification processes beforehand.
