Abstract

Comics are probably still considered by a significant segment of the population as a minor art intended to distract young people. Freed from the illustrated tales of the nineteenth century and the images of Épinal, it will however flourish quickly over the years, benefiting from an increasing diffusion via daily newspapers, weeklies and albums. Today, this mode of expression displays an extraordinary health with, among other things, more than 3,000 French-language novelties published each year. Comics have therefore become an extraordinary means of communication, sometimes considered as a product of cultural consumption, sometimes as an art form in its own right.
