Abstract

Experiments are described in which rigidly clamped thin lead and aluminium membranes were subjected to uniformly distributed transverse initial velocity using a novel inertial loading device. The permanent deformations thus obtained are compared with those calculated by numerical integration of equations proposed by Lippmann.
