Nations against the State: The New Politics of Nationalism in Quebec, Catalonia and Scotland

Michael James Keating

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

Quebec, Catalonia and Scotland are three stateless nations looking for a future in a world beyond the nation state. This book argues that national identity may be a vital source of social cohesion in a world dominated by markets and global forces, but that this does not necessarily entail sovereign statehood in the traditional sense. These three nations are harbingers of a new post-sovereigntist nationhood.
