Abstract

In some previous work finite element analysis was used to determine distributions of flexural rigidity in beams with abrupt changes in section by calculating the variation in the curvature of the beam centre-line. An alternative experimental treatment of the same problem is described herein, the centre-line curvature being derived from photoelastic data.
