Abstract

The importance of polarization of optical fields in the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) experiments was investigated. Three-level cascade scheme of rubidium was analyzed for the magnitude dependence characteristics of the EIT. The system with degenerate magnetic sublevels and dipole matrix elements was responsible for the dependence. The transition from the ground state to the upper state was solely responsible for the phenomenon.
