Abstract

The theme of this Special Issue is: Nonlinear Dynamics in Engineering – Modeling, Analysis and Applications. The issue comprises some of the papers which were presented in a conference held at The Centre for Applied Dynamics Research (CADR) at the University of Aberdeen.

CADR was founded in 2003, and to mark its 10th anniversary, we organized the International Conference on Nonlinear Dynamics in Engineering: Modeling, Analysis and Applications, which was held in Aberdeen between 20 and 23 August 2013. The main aim of the conference was to critically assess the state-of-the-art numerical, analytical and experimental methods applied to mechanics and nonlinear dynamics of all branches of engineering. It was attended by approximately 80 participants (see Fig. 1) from many countries, who have been collaborators or visitors of the Centre. The 15 papers of the issue consider various aspects of nonlinear dynamics. Some of them are focused on more fundamental issues whereas others tackle specific engineering problems. Synchronization phenomena and dynamics of pendula systems are well featured in this volume.
