Abstract

The concept of peri-operative inflammation leads us to consider new patient screening, patient stratification, and preoperative optimization strategies, particularly in frail elderly cancer patients. General practitioners are now invited to work in close collaboration with hospital physicians, being part of a unique chain of care, in order to better document, understand, and adapt strategies to the peri-operative care setting, thereby facilitating resolution of issues relating to the postoperative phase.
