Abstract
Crystallization is an important means for separation, purification, and manufacturing of pharmaceutical and fine chemical products. Continuous crystallization has attracted significant attention in recent years due to the efforts put in by the pharmaceutical industry and researchers around the globe with encouragement from the leading pharmaceutical regulatory authorities in order to transition from batch to continuous manufacturing. The continuous manufacturing is characterized by a more efficient, flexible, easily scalable, more reliable process compared to its batch counterpart. The recent COVID-19 global pandemic has also underscored the importance of achieving the capability to ramp up pharmaceutical production in short notice while following the stringent regulations to mitigate the potential shortage of lifesaving drugs. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry is aspiring to achieve a plant-wide continuous manufacturing for which continuous crystallization plays a critical role as one of the main unit operations...
