Abstract

Effective management of natural environment relies on acquiring accurate and detailed information in a timely manner. The technology advancements in the sensing, communication and processing fields have made it possible to capture the events of interest in the physical world from remote locations. The WiSE (Wireless Internet Sensing Environment) Project is a multi-disciplinary activity funded by the RCUK dot.rural Digital Economy Hub. It has been designed to facilitate the deployment of cameras and sensors to remotely monitor an area of interest in any weather condition. The platform is solar powered and fully autonomous. A satellite unit enables deployment to the remotest part of the world and yet provides access to data via the Internet.
