Abstract

An account is given of some of the principal observations made from a series of experiments in which fully built-in beams were subjected to central impact by V-shaped projectiles. The beams formed the top of a tank filled with water and their response was significantly influenced by the presence of the fluid. For comparison, results are also presented for similar beams loaded without the fluid present in order to identify the main effects produced by the fluid-structure interaction.
