Abstract

Peter Mulholland supplies a useful anthropological survey of the development of
New Religious Movements (NRMs) in Ireland. The author primarily uses popular
media sources and newspaper articles to explain why NRMs and New Age
Movements (NAMs), such as the Charismatic Revival Movement, gained popularity
in Ireland during a period in recent Irish history when the social power and cultural influence of the Catholic Church was waning.
