Abstract

Considers the use of marine insurance in Scotland before the mid eighteenth century and argues that contrary to the conclusions of A.D.M Forte in 'Marine Insurance and Risk Distribution in Scotland before 1800' Law and History Review, 5 (1987), 393-412 it was widely used by Scots merchants.
