Semiconductor Oxide Photocatalysis for Organic Synthesis

Abstract

The creation and reactivity of benzyl radicals produced by photooxidation of benzyltrimethylsilanes at the surface of TiO2 is described. Kinetic data have been obtained and the effects of the nature and position of substitutions on the benzylsilane ring have been investigated. In-situ EPR spectroscopy has been used to investigate the mechanism of the reaction.
