Abstract

In this paper a model of a rigid, symmetrical rotor on fluid film bearings is considered. Modal frequencies and damping ratios are computed and compared with the results obtained from Complex Modal Testing. It is shown that instability occurs with low damping. The critical damping in the fluid film bearings and the threshold speed at which marginal stability occurs, is computed.
