Abstract
Previously reported experiments [1] indicated that when a line of rings is subjected to end impact the deformation proceeds from one ring to the next in a wave-like manner. In this paper a shock theory is constructed analogous to that for waves in a solid cylinder. The model is used to examine three different systems and extensions of the theory are discussed.
