N2 - The political year of 2010 was very eventful. In some respects it is not an exaggeration to call it historic. The parliamentary election resulted in the entry into parliament of the Sweden Democrats, an historical high point for the Moderate Party and a ditto low point for the Social Democrats. The four-party centre-right Alliance coalition stayed in office, but lost its outright majority. The first major reshuffle of the Government took place after the election. Sweden emerged out of the 2008–2009 economic recession comparatively unharmed, with the qualification that unemployment remained high. A number of key reforms of the political and legal system were decided.
