Abstract

The chapter studies the attitude of Early Jewish authors (Aristeas, Jospehus, Philo, 4Macc) to Greco-Roman philosophy. While frequently agreeing with the value of philosophy, most Jewish authors see their own theological activity as reflecting the best of philosophia, while surpassing it in the attainment of truth and virtue.
