Abstract

The title compound, 4C(6)H(18)N(2)(2+) center dot 4HAsO(4)(2-) center dot 7H(2)O, contains a complex network of organic cations, hydrogenarsenate anions and water molecules. One of the two distinct (HAsO4)(2) - anions shows the expected distinction between protonated and unprotonated As - O bond lengths. The component species interact by way of N - H center dot center dot center dot O and O - H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds, with the latter leading to distinct centrosymmetric (HAsO4)(4) tetramers, in which the central linking O - H center dot center dot center dot O bond is assumed to be disordered about the inversion centre. Together, the cations and anions form an unusual three-dimensional framework encapsulating [100] channels occupied by the water molecules.
