Abstract

In a time of dramatic change in the environmental systems wordwide, Western science and technology are called upon to "innovate". Innovation however is filled with values. This paper outlines the features of an epistemological framework in which issues of ecology are linked to questions of equity. It suggests that respectful dialogue and integration of different systems of knowledge is a necessary condition for building a future that is in line with sustainability.
