Abstract
According to its critics, pacifism is politically irresponsible, unrealistic, idealistic, incoherent, self-contradictory, logically untenable, bizarre, ludicrous, and a fantastic corrupting illusion.1 As a pacifist, what worries me more than the breadth and depth of these charges, is the basic misunderstandings of pacifism on which most of them stand.
