Abstract
Addition of AlPO4 during the preparation of VOHPO(4)(.)0.5H(2)O leads to a catalyst, following activation, comprising (VO)(2)P2O7 and AlPO4 that displays over twice the activity of the AlPO4-free (VO)(2)P2O7 for the oxidation of butane to maleic anhydride without loss of selectivity. This improvement is shown to occur, at least in part, as a consequence of an electronic promotion effect.
