Abstract

The University of Aberdeen is investigating the use of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 digital video in Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) on behalf of the higher education community in the UK. This is a 2 year project conducted with the support by the Joint Informations Systems Committee under project JISC/JTAP-288. During the project, an exemplar CAL multimedia application has been developed which demonstrates the use of this new technology. This has been accompanied by an indepth study of the practical issues in network delivery of such an application from a Video Clip Server (VCS) to one or more classrooms. The CAL application is now in use as a component of an undergraduate course at the Foresterhill Medical School.
