Abstract

Ten years ago a book about the sociology of youth would have concentrated upon youth cultures and sub-cultures. Since then the situation of the young has changed dramatically and so have the sociological paradigms used to study them. For the first time in Britain, youth has become a category for large-scale policy intervention and this has served to construct a new model of youth and to re-define their status.
