Abstract
This article is aimed at myth-busting and addressed at a non-academic Polish audience in whose historical memory the years of the 'Swedish Deluge' , the war between their Poland, Sweden and Muscovy in the seventeenth century, is still strong. The article considers the contradictory activities of one of the players of this war, a powerful LIthuanian nobleman who regularly transgressed political, religious, linguistic and geographical borders in his services to both the Polish-Lithuanian Republic and the rising state of Brandenburg-Prussian state, and who until this day is remembered as a 'traitor' to the Polish cause.
