The Epidemiology Group within the Institute of Applied Health Sciences has the following aims:

  • To determine the epidemiology of specific rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, with a focus on modifiabile risk factors
  • To use this information to inform the design of clinical trials of management and public health interventions with a goal of improving outcomes for patients and the public.

Professor Gary J Macfarlane, Head of the Epidemiology Group, is Clinical Chair of Epidemiology and Deputy Director of the Institute of Applied Health Sciences.
