We describe the calibration procedure of the infrared thermopile used in the Ground Temperature Sensor (GTS) of the HABIT/ExoMars 2020 instrument, and report the preliminary performance test results at laboratory ambient and Martian equivalent environment. The setup and the procedures described in this work are easy to be implemented with any infrared thermopile sensors and facilitate developing a custom non- contact temperature/emissivity measurement system. We also developed a two-band pyrometer based on the calibration procedure to demonstrate the advantages of measuring the temperature and the emissivity of a remote target and detect the changes that are associated with the phases of the brine as hypothesized to be on the Martian surface. This remote detector can be of interest to the future surface exploration of Mars.
