Abstract

Air Permeable Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (APAAC) is a new self-supporting dynamic insulation material under development. Finite Element (FE) models were developed tosimulate the properties of idealised APAAC matrices. The effects of void ratio and interconnection channel size on the strength of the material, and the corresponding permeability to airflow were predicted computationally. The authors conclude that it is possible to optimise the mechanical and permeation properties of APAAC for use in monolithic, self-supporting, energy-efficient breathing wall construction.
