Abstract

In comparison to other Denbighshire caves the archaeological status of Llanarmon Cave (Llanarmon-Yn-Iâl) is poorly documented. Recent fieldwork between 2012 and 2016 tested the cave’s deposits for archaeological and palaeontological material. The presence of reindeer bones demonstrates a minimum age of early Holocene for some of the cave’s faunal assemblage. A radiocarbon date for a red deer bone places it in the first few centuries of the Holocene. The presence in North Wales of red deer at this time has implications for understanding changing fauna at the end of the Ice Age.
