Abstract

With the publication of Guidance on Flexibility in the Curriculum (Circular 3/2001, SEED), the new millennium saw the advent of greater freedom for all schools to consider how they might best meet the needs of individual pupils. In particular, the relaxation of 'age and stage' regulations and of curriculum guidelines for different stages, offered opportunities which could hardly have been imagined under the previous heavily centralised and prescriptive conditions.
