Abstract
The paper aims to demistify the risks faced by investment in the water supply and wastewater industry, examining the notions of 'risk' in two societies: the UK and the USA. The two societies express sharply differeing perspectives on risks faced by the business of water supply, which can be traced to misconceptions of risk, to differing legislative frameworks and to a confusion between 'risk' and 'volatility'.
