Abstract

This symposium ‘The increase in allergic disease: environment and susceptibility’ continued the 219-year-old tradition of the Royal Society of Edinburgh of bringing experts together from around the world to discuss topical problems. The aim of the symposium was to provide insight into known and as yet unknown factors underlying the recent increase in allergic disease and to identify factors that could potentially be modified for the purpose of either preventing or treating allergic disease.
